AI negotiate car price script: make dealers compete in writing
Copy-paste AI prompts and email scripts to collect itemized out-the-door quotes from multiple dealers, audit junk fees, and buy from the best written offer.
Phone quotes favor the dealership. Written, itemized out-the-door (OTD) quotes favor you. Use AI to draft a polite email that asks every dealer in your radius for the same trim, fees broken out, VIN, and expiry — then let them compete.
Educational only. Not legal or financial advice. Public first-person reports describe meaningful discounts off MSRP in some cases; your results vary by model demand and region. Never misrepresent another dealer's numbers.
Lock the car first
Build the exact year/make/model/trim/color/packages on the manufacturer site. Save MSRP and the configuration. Get a credit-union or bank pre-approval so rate padding is harder to hide.
Master OTD email prompt
Write a short, polite email to a dealer's internet sales manager. I want a [YEAR MAKE MODEL TRIM, COLOR, PACKAGES]. Ask for a written, itemized out-the-door price including vehicle price, all dealer fees, add-ons (I decline optional add-ons), tax, title and registration for ZIP [ZIP], plus the VIN of an in-stock or in-transit unit and quote expiry date. Say I am contacting several dealers and will buy this week from the best complete quote. No phone calls please.
Send individually. Log replies in a sheet: price, doc fee, add-ons, tax, title, reg, OTD, VIN, expiry.
Junk-fee audit prompt
Redact your name and license. Paste the buyer's order:
I am in [STATE]. Here is a redacted dealer worksheet [PASTE]. Classify each line as government fee, common/state-capped dealer fee, or optional add-on I can refuse. Draft one calm sentence asking to remove each optional item. Do not invent fees.
Compete once
Reply to the top dealers with the best written OTD and ask if they can beat it by a deadline. Stop after two rounds. Go in only to sign. Decline F&I add-ons you can buy later.
Verify
VIN matches trim. Tax ≈ your DMV calculator. Contract OTD matches the email. Pre-approval APR compared to dealer APR on the same term.
FAQ
What is an out-the-door (OTD) price? The total you pay to drive away: vehicle price plus taxes, title, registration and every dealer fee. Comparing OTD quotes stops fees from hiding in the payment.
Is it legal to have dealers compete by email? Yes. Asking several dealers for written quotes on the same vehicle is normal shopping. Be truthful about competing offers.
Can AI tell me the right price for a car? It can organize quotes and flag fees, but it does not know live local pricing. Use real written quotes and published prices to verify.
